About me

IntroductionI was born a naturalist. As a kid, I was into everything that came from the earth and sea. The space under my bed was stuffed with interesting rocks, seashells, feathers, and, yes, fossils. There were no fossils to be seen at home atop a formation of metamorphic rock, however. They were oddities to be found out there somewhere discovered in gravel parking lots on our family’s infrequent travels. Now with the web at my fingertips, I’ve finally managed to find the origins of those fossils in the roadway. I started with a local site I’d heard about, where found a fossil oyster, Pycnodonte mutabilis. I was hooked. Since then, our family has gone rockhounding and fossil hunting across the USA, amassing more shelves and boxes of treasures than my husband would care to think about. Now we share our finds in an annual display at our local library, donate fossils shells to the Delaware Museum of Natural History’s world-class mollusk collection, volunteer in their Collections and Research Dept., and create educational programs for our community. We’ve met a lot of people along the way that wanted to know more about our activities, so this page is for you.
