| Introduction | Glasgow Socialist Women's Choir, was born on 23 August, 1988 when a bunch of women started to meet on a Tuesday evening to sing together. Over the years we have performed at fundraising concerts, on protest marches and on picket lines. We have sung on several BBC documentaries and appeared on television with Elaine C Smith and Billy Bragg. Our most memorable performance however was in October 1993 when we shared the stage with Nelson Mandela when he came to receive the Freedom of the City of Glasgow. Most recently we took part in Sink Down Mountain, Rise Up Valley, commissioned by The Common Guild The songs we sing echo our core values of justice, peace and equality and we will continue to sing out as long as these values are threatened both in this country and abroad. |
