How do you pronounce the 'g' in bologna?
Bologna is a notorious college town in Northern Italy. The 'gn' combination in the Italian language makes a sort of [y]sound in the English phonetics with a real soft [n] sound flowing directly into the next vowel. Hence, gnocchi, lasagna, and Bologna.
