| Introduction | Stepping up from just being a journeyman sports participant, in 2013 I became British Sprint Triathlon M55-59 Age Group Champion. I also represented GB and was 6th in the Olympic distance race at the ETU European Triathlon Championships in Alanya, Turkey and had the dubious honour of having two DNF’s (Did not Finish) in three days at the ITU World Triathlon Championships in London in the Aquathlon and Sprint races. For the second part of 2013 I suffered from Achilles tendonitis which somewhat hindered my performance. Now in early 2014 I’m hoping I’ve got over this problem and I’m back in training. My target for 2014 is again the ETU European AG championships in Kitzbuhel, Austria in June, where I have qualified for GB in the age group sprint race. As per 2013 I will have to juggle running a business, being a good husband and father to a five and three year old and, probably most importantly, staying healthy and injury free in my advancing years. Oh yes – and just to keep me out of trouble I’ve taken on some voluntary administration rolls in the form of directorships of Welsh Triathlon and then the Welsh Triathlon representative on the board of British Triathlon. |
