| Introduction | Im 57, with 3 kids - all grown up now - 4 grandchildren and many long-suffering friends. I've been a Christian for many many years and also had depression, on and off since my teenage years. I've been in 'remission' for about 3 years after 9 years of severe and chronic depression. I've been on a lot of different medication, had shock therapy, inner healing prayer and tried a host of other ways to treat it. Through it all God has been with me, even when I tried to end my life. It's particularly difficult being a Christian and having depression. Not only do you question your faith, but other Christians question your faith. Church leaders will tell you it's all spiritual and that you need deliverance. Friends (Christians friends) will not know how to handle your symptoms, and unless they've experienced the same thing, its hard to blame them. So that's why I am writing a book about being a Christian and experiencing depression. And that's why this blog has evolved....to support those that struggle with depression and to help their friends and family to know how to support them. I welcome feedback and comments, even ones that don't agree with my point of view. |
