| Introduction | I was the first person to thru-hike the Appalachian, Pacific Crest and Continental Divide Trails all in the same year. I left a 17-year career as a computer engineer in Silicon Valley to do the 7,400-mile hike in 2001 because I hoped to find meaning in my life. Following my heart made all the difference. Mega-hiking led me to trail running which led me to fellow ultramarathon runner Sophia Lewis who married me in 2005. Her son Skyler is my stepson. We're separated now, but still good friends. |
