Introduction This blog is a tribute to my mother (Betty) who taught me to sew at 11 years old. partly out of necessity being that I was extremely tall for my age (I’m 6’ tall now) and secondly to keep me from talking while she sewed. As a child I’d awake to the hum of her sewing machine or fall asleep to her sitting at her machine late into the night. She has such a creative spirit; she could make anything and made everything! I never had to go to the mall for any clothing, we made everything I wore. My most cherished garments were my wedding gown and a black velvet gown w/rhinestone webbed back also a black wool suit we copied from a department store display. After a few health issues her hands have slowed down, but her knowledge lives on! We still hang out in fabric stores and get together to make special garments for each other and some of her younger great grandchildren. I still after 30 years call her for advice occasionally and she still makes me rip out seams and do them over when not done to her standards. After complaining I stop and think – I Love this moment!
