| Introduction | KEN MOSKOWITZ, Counselor for Public Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Sofia, was previously Coordinator for Cultural Affairs programs at the State Department’s Foreign Service Institute. He has also served as the Tokyo American Center director, been a Congressional Fellow for Representative Nancy Pelosi and Senator James Jeffords, and attended the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at the Johns Hopkins University. His prior Foreign Service posts include Information Officer, American Embassy, Kyiv (Ukraine); Country Affairs Officer for ASEAN countries, U.S. Information Agency; Assistant Information Officer, Tokyo; and Deputy Public Affairs Officer, Budapest. Moskowitz earlier covered community development and housing issues for CD Publications, and is the editor of the third edition of The Greater Washington Area Bicycle Atlas. He has an M.A. in Philosophy from Brown University and a B.A. in History and English Literature from Swarthmore College. He speaks Bulgarian, Japanese, Ukrainian, Russian, Hungarian, and French and is married to Dr. Yoko Shoji Moskowitz, a pharmacologist. They enjoy playing piano, riding their bicycles, and climbing mountains. |
