| Interests | We are a small local producer based in East Kent and members of Produced in Kent (www.producedinkent.co.uk). We have been farming edible snails of the species Helix aspersa maxima on a small scale for four and a half years but have started to expand. The live snails have become local celebrities attracting a lot of attention, when they appear at local events such as food fairs and markets. They have also been filmed for television and photographed for the local press. It takes up to 6 months for eggs to reach table size. Some are kept indoors in the winter so they can visit schools but most hibernate. In the summer they live out of doors at Grow garden centre at Brogdale Faversham. This species of snail, which was selectively bred for farming can grow to nearly 2 inches across the shell at full size. |
