Gender Male
Industry Non-Profit

Introduction I've been a farm boy, a bus boy, a millhand, a Marine, a low criminal, a high crazy, a computer technician, a mechanic, a long-haul trucker, a student, a journalist, a technical writer, a teacher. I earned bachelor's degrees in history and English and a master's in magazine journalism before discovering I was better off as an autodidact. At various times I've lived in Iowa, Texas, Arizona, California, Oregon, and Missouri. Today I live in Iowa, with my books, my computer, my tools, my motorcycle, my fishing tackle and my muse, Clio the Wonder Cat. I walk through the greenbelt along the Wapsipinicon River and write what I please when the spirit moves me. Most of what you'll find here are personal essays, fiction, and a blue-collar slant on the news and on journalism. Read all you can stand. Write back if it pleases you, or if it doesn't.
Interests motorcycles, trucks, history, literature, journalism, current events, myth, books, reading and writing and rhetoric, movies, food and cooking, computers and software, camping and fishing, guns, tools and techniques, nature, cats, music, travel, driving, photography, conversation, lots of other stuff.

If you drive on a parkway why don't they make the whole plane out of that?

Because concrete aircraft are not fuel efficient.
