| Introduction | I have always loved children (though they like to drive me crazy more often than not). When I think about my dream house, the entire thing is designed around them. From chalkboard paint on the walls in the hallway down to the pirate ship in the nursery with a gang plank that you can dive off of into a ball pit. I must admit, my imagination likes to get the best of me, but in a time like today when television and video games are what children turn to, I miss what I grew up with--simple pleasures like baking bread with my mother and digging worms up out of the garden. I find myself studying my baby and seeing how in two days time, he will pick up a new trick, or figure out how to get into something new. He just learned that crayons are not for eating but for putting color on paper. This child's curiosity drives me to find ways to tap into the way he still sees the world. The older you get, the more reality sits in and you forget how to imagine and daydream. I feel like it's been years since I've daydreamed. But children are your second childhood, don't miss out on it. Take them by the hand and let them show you just how amazing everything still is. |
