| Introduction | So much of my life has been about needlecrafts, family and travel. I had major brain damage in 1987, at the age of 32 caused by second hand smoke, resulting in a major asthma attack. It took 45 minutes to get me stabilized and by then much of my brain was fried. My early years in the 50s and 60s was a time of living simply, where fabric was used to make clothes, worn clothing was used to make braided rugs, quilts and other things. WE made our own window coverings and so much more. I watched the magic of my mother and grandmothers hands creating beauty from fabric scraps and loved the quiet times in their presence as this magic played out. When I was old enough I too began learning how to do these magical things with needle and thread. I was taught not only sewing, but also embroidery and crocheting. Yet the thing that seemed to stick with me most was making clothings and quilts!I made a few quilts before 1987, and started in 1993 to try to teach myself again, take classes and get my brain wrapped around the HOW to do them. This is my journey over all these years and 300 quilts later. |
