Introduction	I am an eighteen-year-old accepted at Williams College, where I'll try to play for the golf team. I have, however, deferred my admission for a year. As of September 1, I'm driving across the country with the goal of playing a golf course in every state in the continental U.S., and writing about the experience. I hope to play a wide range of courses--from the worst municipals to some top private courses--to meet a wide variety of people with different backgrounds, stories, and viewpoints. I will be trying to join twosomes and threesomes where I can, and plan on writing about the people I meet and places I end up. The goal of the writing is to provide a unique perspective on certain aspects of our country and its people. Along the way I hope to stay with friends and friends of friends, bouncing from couch to couch as much as possible. I'll start off across the Northern U.S., with the hope of a warm passage through the likes of North Dakota and Montana, and get to the Oregon area by early- to mid-November, where there are year-round courses. After a trip home for Christmas, I'll head back out on the road, weaving my way back toward New England, where I will arrive by mid-May.
