If you could peer far enough into the night sky, you'd see a star in any direction you looked. When would you sleep?

This is known as Olbert's paradox. If it indeed were true, then the night sky would be as bright as the surface of the Sun. Because the night sky is not this bright, we can infer that the Universe is indeed finite. This is not to say spatially finite, but temporally finite: it has a beginning.
