About me

Introduction I am a 55 year old married man with a son, daughter and three beautiful grandchildren. I was a Newry and Mourne Councillor for twelve years and a MLA for one term. I topped the poll in Newry City and increased my share of the vote at three successive elections. In 2001 I was a very successful Chairman of the Council. Two years later I obtained almost 6,000 votes to gain a seat to the Northern Ireland Assembly. I am a school teacher by profession and taught A Level Politics at Rathmore Grammar School in Belfast but was forced to relinquish this post because of Loyalist death threats. In 2006 I resigned from Sinn Fein but did so secure in the knowledge that I remained true to my Republican principles. I will be standing as an Independent candidate in Newry town in the 5th May Council Elections. I am determined to represent the people of Newry City.
