Worcestershire & Herefordshire WFA
My blogs
| Introduction | The Worcestershire & Herefordshire Branch was founded in February 1998 by WFA members, Martin and Frances Fricker, who became our first Chairman and Treasurer respectively. A number of people who attended that first meeting are still active branch members. Many eminent military historians and authors have spoken at our meetings over the years. These include; Julian Putkowski, a leading light in the 'Shot At Dawn' campaign to pardon the more than 300 British soldiers executed during the Great War; Prof. Peter Simkins, former curator of the Imperial War Museum; Michael Stedman, the author of 'The Manchester Pals' and 'The Salford Pals', who has also advised on numerous TV documentaries relating to the Great War; and Peter Hart, author and Oral Historian at the Imperial War Museum, whose taped interviews with veterans of both world wars have provided a fascinating insight into the effects of war on the ordinary soldier. |
