Introduction I'm a 34 year old, freelance translator of Japanese to English, specialising (when they let me) in science. I've chalked up five years in this particular endeavour, and I think I'm getting pretty good at it...I am however, getting better at procrastination as well. An early mid-life crisis presented itself at 30, when I suddenly became overwhelmed with the desire to study maths. It was the last thing I expected, only half a year out of my Masters, that's for sure! I can trace it back to some Amazon vouchers that I got for my birthday from my parents' dog Harry and my choice to use them on a pop science book by Brian Greene, along with some Alastair Reynolds, and a space opera collection. I have lived in Japan twice, and after a few years back at my parents' house in Portsmouth, and two years in Bath, I now find myself in Huddersfield with my wife Kim and various animals named after Star Trek characters. We moved here in 2008 so she could start a degree at Bradford, and as of this autumn, she has just finished her Masters.
