| Introduction | I'm (still a) copy editor. If you, like nearly everyone on the planet, don't know what a copy editor is, let me tell you: I proofread stories and write headlines. There's more to it than that, but unless you're one of us, you don't care. I'm also a cynic. I sometimes wish I weren't, but hey, who am I kidding? I do believe that the vast majority of people don't wish harm upon anyone else; the fact that much harm is inflicted nonetheless is a result of ignorance, laziness and a misguided sense of victimhood. People behave according to what they perceive to be their rights and their self-interest; the reason the world is so messed up is because their perceptions are often completely wrong. |
