| Introduction | Home is where I park my van, “NATWWAL". It’s the poshest base camp I’ve ever had, but the concept of extended travel is not new to me. My wanderlust tendencies blossomed when I taught school in the early 80's. The first couple summers off, crammed full of adventures, seemed like enough. But then I began to wonder... What would it be like to take a year off work and just go? Travel and take each day as it comes? That first ‘year’ turned into 18 months and led to 9 years of wanderlust. I traveled on the cheap; either cycle-touring or backpacking. Now that I’m a sexagenarian and newly retired, I’ve come full circle. My school-bus home of the 80's is shorter; a fully-equipped 21’ Winnebago Travato 59-G. It carries those toys that used to be my sole means of travel, along with an inflatable kayak. So many options for recreation! I am living full time in my van and letting the road take me where it will. How long will I keep at this full time? Until it doesn't feel like what I want to do anymore. In the meantime -- viva la adventura! |
