IntroductionMy interest in sailing started in grade school when I made model sailboats and sailed them in a nearby pond. After college, I bought a used Sailfish and have been sailing and racing ever since. My wife started the Javelin Class Association (O'Day) soon after we were married. We won many of the National Championships in that relatively less-competitive class. Since then, I've raced Interlakes, Thistles, and Jet-14s. I currently race sail canoes, and have won my share of championship events. Designing and fabricating sail rigs for canoes and kayaks is one of my current hobbies. A good sail rig is one that sails fast to windward. Using a downwind-only sail is not really sailing. The potential for racing is a major consideration in my designs because racing, as in other sports, helps you improve your skill and technique. I see a great potential for recreational paddlers to add sail, and to race their kayaks in local and national sailing events. My son, Gus, helped me set up this blog. danreiber@roadrunner.com
