About me

Occupation Musician ~ Author ~ Speaker
Location Brisbane, Queensland
Introduction In my teaching and workshops for musicians, as well as examining and adjudicating, I've found about 99.9% of performers are nervous in front of an audience or panel. To give some practical, do-able tips that really ease performance anxiety, I've written books on how to practice and how to perform with confidence. Now I present workshops around the world helping players release that tension that inhibits their free expression of their talent, and realise their potential. (Oh, and as well as giving one-on-one performance coaching and playing in Brsbane Symphony Orchestra, I somehow manage to find time for my own clarinet students.)
Interests I really enjoy motivating students on the path to success... and inspiring teachers to be their guides. A recipe for musical success is commitment, confidence, and enthusiasm for what you do. I understand the challenges and stresses of achieving mastery of your instrument through the hard-yards of practice and then walking on-stage for performance. To teachers: I do support your goal to instill in students a true love of learning and commitment to reach their ultimate potential. I've applied my 30 years' experience as an international musician, teacher and speaker, to design humorous, challenging and content rich seminars and workshops... Whether they perform with words or music, students learn study, practice and presentation habits that will benefit them for a lifetime. Oh, and as a parent of 3 talented sons, I have heard all the excuses to avoid practice! I've seen them through the highs and lows. So, parents of talented musicians, I enjoy giving tips to help you encourage, support and enhance your child's development and success.
