| Introduction | Kids In Trouble, Inc. was found in 1968. The program works with at-risk children. December 2008 marks the 40th year of coordinating and hosting Christmas toy parties for needy children. The NFL, MLB and the NBA all care because Kids In Trouble, Inc. cared first. In 1968 Green Bay Packer's Hall of Fame player Willie Wood became the first NFL player to join the KIT team. NBA Hall of Fame player Dave Bing joined KIT IN 1969. In 1970 the Washington Redskins became the first pro sports team to have its players make inner-city children a priority by working side by side with Kids In Trouble, Inc. It was during the 1971 NFL season that CBS television aired the first NFL Community Promo. The taping was held at the Hillcrest Children's Center Saturday Program in NW DC. The promo showed MVP RB Larry Brown and LB Harold McLinton teaching water safety to inner-city children. Today's sports talk radio and TV formats are a carbon copy of the original "Inside Sports" heard on W-O-O-K Radio in DC in 1973 with host and Executive Producer, Harold Bell. Sports columnist Dick Heller of the Washington Times says, 'Harold Bell is the Godfather of sports talk---the good kind.' |
