Introduction Who am I? This is the question I have been processing (and having more than a few wobblies over), as I enter the phase of mid-life and empty nest. My identity has largely been perceived from what I do, my roles, relationships, and activities. Part of the process is discovering that while these are important, they are not my core identity. I am a follower of Jesus, desiring to know His heart, to be loved and to love out of the overflow of that love. I’m finding the truth in what C S Lewis said, “ God doesn’t want something from us. He simply wants us.”
Interests Family gatherings are one of my favourite activities. I am a wife to Mike and have three adult children, Rachel, Nathan, and Sharon and am a mother-in-law to Richard. A weekly Skype session with my siblings is a highlight. I run ladies retreats, meet for coffee and one-on-one deep chats with friends and do spiritual tutoring. Church activities have ranged from being on the worship team, running Bible studies, a women’s ministry leader, children’s talk giver and elder. Mike and I have been in full-time Christian ministry for 25 years. I sing in a community choir, enjoy being and seeing creativity, think in analogies, and treat life as a musical where trigger words cause a bursting out in song. I am a teacher by training, having taught in schools, home education and private tutoring. The introvert in me seeks alone time to process. I defy the myth that good readers can spell, as sometimes I even stump the auto-check. I live in a beautiful holiday town, Betty’s Bay, surrounded by mountains, lakes and sea. We always have fresh air here, a place renown for its wind. Being surrounded by nature and having visits from porcupines, buck and birds are a delight. My husband is known for his love of insects, spiders, amphibians and reptiles. Visits from these ones are a joy to him, but perhaps not so much by me, although I have been heard to say, "Yes, that the frog is cute."
