About me

Introduction was founded in 1953.Some birders from the Midlands came to stay on the island and saw that it was a very good place to set up an observatory and study birds and wildlife in general. The Observatory was founded by members of several bird clubs namely the Birmingham and West Midlands Bird Club, West Wales Field Society, the islanders and everyone else that had an interest in Caernarfonshire.Following this the Bardsey Trust was founded after the island was on sale in the middle of the 70's. Members of the Observatory and some people from Gwynedd bought the island and formed the Bardsey Trust.Their main reason for buying it was to preserve the heritage and natural history and to keep it alive.Bardsey Bird and Field Observatory is the only Obs that has been accredited in Wales and one of 20 through a network in Britain. It is still growing all the time. The Obs is a registered charity.
