| Introduction | ProjectX is an independent study project by two graduate students at Arizona State University. Grey Fowles and Alan Francis are pursuing dual graduate degrees in architecture and energy efficient building design (MArch/MSBE). This project is an attempt to synthesize the qualitative aspects of architecture with the quantitative aspects of building science through an integrated design process. The architectural studio environment represents an opportunity for students of architecture to merge the worlds of art and science in the creation of beautiful low-energy buildings. In ProjectX, we have the opportunity to explore an approach to integrated building design for a real world client, the Desert Biofuels Initiative. The goal of ProojectX is to design a low-energy fuel processing building (Project A) and an associated interpretive center (Project B). In addition to our goal of creating beautiful climate responsive buildings, ProjectX seeks to document the process that will serve as a precedent for further exploration. |
