| Introduction | I am a Michigan native with a background that’s not traditionally midwestern. I worked as a housemaid in a Scottish hotel during a summer break in college, studied French and art in Paris during my graduate education and attended the London School of Economics for a year. My career path in corporate and higher education communications has led to the rental or purchase of 24 apartments and homes in four states. As a single, older mom, I have made five trips by myself to rural Russia since 2000 to adopt two older daughters and have written about this experience for two newspapers. My eldest daughter gave birth to my first grandchild in June 2013 and my younger daughter continues college studies in Italy, where she will likely live following graduation. After buying a cottage style house, I downsized by about 50 percent and am loving the bucolic location with a river view. In addition to helping with granddaughter care, I have two senior cats and a highly "spirited" dog . Life is good. Thanks for reading. |
