| Introduction | I was born and raised in the United States, my father having immigrated from Mexico in the late 1970s. In my lifetime I have been able to vacation in 8 of the 31 states of Mexico, stayed overnight in 3 others, and driven through 9 additional states. Having became first aware of drug cartels in December 2006, I began reading and researching in particular about those operating in areas I was most familiar with. My early focus was the Cartel del Golfo, Los Zetas, Los Beltrán Leyva, and La Familia Michoacana. Since then I am most interested in organizations derived from these groups as well as Cártel de Santa Rosa de Lima, which dominates my ancestral homeland of Guanajuato. |
