OccupationFounder & CEO of the International Autoimmune Arthritis Movement
IntroductionIn 2009 I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, after 2 years of being labeled the mystery patient. When I began telling people what I had they did not understand, confusing my disease with degenerative arthritis. Frustrated, I declared a movement of awareness-to myself in my living room- which ended up going global in a matter of months. At this time I realized the need to differentiate arthritis types, not as the most common being Osteo and Rheumatoid but rather the most common being Osteo and the autoimmune diseases that also were primarily arthritis diseases. After working with a team of rheumatologists to find which diseases fell into that category, the term Autoimmune Arthritis officially became the politically correct terminology to differentiate the types of arthritis. On my 40th birthday I opened the mailbox to find the notification that the International Autoimmune Arthritis Movement was an official 501c3 nonprofit and I became the CEO of the 1st organization in history to separate this group of diseases in honor of awareness and education. www.IAAMovement.org www.facebook.com/InternationalAutoimmuneArthritisMovement Twitter: @IAAMovement
