| Introduction | I was not an athletic woman. In 2006, I discovered cardio kickboxing; so, I began structured martial arts training. I volunteer taught and earned my black belt. In 2009, I quit my job as an grassroots community organizer to pursue a healthy path and began volunteering at West Hartford Yoga in exchange for classes. Yoga slowed my mind down and I began to notice the stories that I'd been telling myself. I promised that I would begin to live my life when I achieved some future ideal. I didn't believe that I, or anyone else, was worthy of love just as we were; yet, I wanted to be loved, approved of and appreciated. From this inflexible place, Yoga moved me. Yoga will begin to improve the flexibility of both the mind and body. Yoga is the path to acceptance and compassion. With a commitment to live our lives authentically it's possible to rebuild a personal relationship with ourselves. I completed my 200 Hour Yoga Alliance Certification at West Hartford Yoga and have been influenced by teachers Barbara Ruzansky, Nykki Poole and Glenn Black. |
