| Introduction | I have so many interests that I often have a hard time deciding which one to pursue. And given that I am endlessly curious and easily bored, I would have to say my best asset would be my constant pursuit of the unknown, the original, the unusual, the things that have a certain magic. I love the city where I live....yes, all the rain as well as the breathtaking beauty. I love being out of doors, walking or hiking. I am passionate about all animals. I am a vegan for ethical reasons. I am a grandmother of 6, nearly 7 grandchildren and mother of 4. I also have two special kitties that manage me. I love color, texture, poetry, and beauty all in one space. I love to be quiet sometimes and read or just think or dream. (I have another blog under the name mendofleur.com, related primarily to textiles and stitching.) |
| Interests | art history, biographies, design, textile history and research, quilts (antique and new), vintage and antique textiles, refurbishing furniture, sewing clothes as well as accessories and decorator items, hiking, snow-shoeing |
| Favorite movies | Any movie with incredible period costumes and clothing takes my breath away! I also love French films, worthy documentaries, and my all time favorite movie was and still is Out of Africa. |
| Favorite music | I love opera, especially the ones by Puccini. Madame Butterfly is exquisite in its sorrow as well as its beauty. I have so many favorite arias from all the operas. I also love sacred music by Handel and Bach although I am not religious. I like Yo-Yo Ma, and many of the other string instrument recordings. On the lighter side I like Steve Tyrell, Diana Krall, Frank Sinatra, The Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, and Talking Heads. My taste is very eclectic. |
| Favorite books | My favorite writer is Isak Dinesen. I have read most everything she has written: Winter's Tales, Seven Gothic Tales, Last Tales. I also am very obsessed with the writings of Virginia Woolf and any book written by or about The Bloomsbury Group. My favorite childhood book was Heidi, a book I still love beyond any other, I suppose. |
