| Introduction | I was born here in Washington, and, about a year later, complications resulting from what might be called a birth defect led to damage to my optic nerve, thus rendering me legally blind, though I had more eyesight in earlier life than I do now. My parents were divorced when I was about 4 or 5, and I continued to live with my now-late mother in a fairly-large flat located not too far from where I live now. Among other things, I could ride a tricycle around that flat _QUITE_ well if I may say so! She and I re-located to my present residence on 12 February, 1960. I began my formal education in a special programme the DC Public Schools had in those days for such as we. |
| Interests | So-called Classical music, military and certain other forms of ceremony plus the music which complements it, use of hopefully-well-written and spoken English, using the Internet and E-Mail, listening to The_ _Young_ _And__The_ _Restless and The_ _Bold_ _And_ _The_ _Beautiful_ (admittedly a guilty pleasure), some sports, etc. |
| Favorite movies | Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, The Wizard of Oz, Ben Hur, Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo, many classic musicals, etc. |
| Favorite music | Vaughan Williams's "The Pilgrim's Progress, most of Handel's oratorios and church music, some of his operas and instrumental works, most of Elgar's music, much other Classical music, marches by Sousa and others, classic works for military and symphonic band, classic Broadway and Hollywood from time to time, occasionally some older popular standards, some barbershop which I almost NEVER hear these days, some of the music from the '50's and '60's when I was growing up, etc. |
| Favorite books | The_ _Bible_ in the Authorized (King James) Version, _Portrait_ _Of_ _Elgar_ by Michael Kennedy, _The_ _Works_ _Of_ _Ralph_ _Vaughan_ _Williams_ by Michael Kennedy, _The_ _Cambridge_ _Companion_ _To_ _Elgar_ by various authors, _Handel's_ _Dramatic_ _Oratorios_ _And_ _Masques_ by Winton Dean (though some of its information may now be somewhat out of date), _Handel's_ _Messiah_ by Donald Burrows, _The_ _Chronicles_ _Of_ _Narnia_ by C. S. Lewis, etc. |
