Introduction I grew up in a conservative-Christian home in the 1980's in Southern California during the presidencies of Reagan and Bush 1. I was home-schooled through the 5th grade because the influence of gangs and "atheist-liberals" was pervasive. Going to revivals and healing services, watching Jim Bakker on TV and listening to Rush Limbaugh on the radio were a part of daily life. You could say I was raised a "cradle conservativeā€ politically and theologically. (MTV and The Simpsons were not allowed.) But something changed in me over the years. I did not stick to the path my parents were paving for me. I began to see things differently, to experience other things. I began to question the way I was being taught to think about certain people, viewpoints and practices. My questions led me in a different direction, toward a different destination than my parents had hoped. I have learned to see God and people and political processes in a way that has led me into new life, free from fear. A life marked more by unity than division... usually. A life lived for others... a fair amount. These critical reflections have been playing out ever since.
