| Introduction | This career that I initially thought would be good for 7 years or so is in its 29th year! My BA is from The Evergreen State College in environmental science. Since then, I've attended a lot of courses, primarily biology and education, and earned my initial teaching license through a program at Lewis and Clark. Middle school teaching fits well with who I am because I'm a little wacky so being "funny" or "fun" works well in my job. I've worked with quite the variety of colleagues, including administrators, as I've been at Hosford for 26 of my 28 years. I have a lot of sympathy for middle school kids whose years are a little rough, as I still remember feeling out of place and unhappy in junior high. I like to introduce 6th graders to the processes of science through investigations. Outdoor school is a favorite because of my love of the outdoors. My current focus in improving my teaching craft is on formative assessment and standards-based teaching. |
