| Introduction | I am a self taught artist who began painting in mid-life. I work in acrylics on canvas and paper and many of my subjects are taken from the natural world. I travel often in search of those natural places which nourishes my artistic vision as does my love of poetry. Living quietly on a lake has allowed me to witness how valuable the natural world is in understanding the mysterious world within each of us. All my work reflects my belief that symbols whether found in nature, art, dreams or events, are the language our soul uses to communicate. When we ponder those encounters I believe our lives become richer and more meaningful. For me, the purpose of art is to provide an opportunity for that to occur. I am trying to encourage and foster what I think is essential and holy work for everyone. Rilke has a line that runs "because being here is so much". I find that a satisfying reason to explain the artistic pursuit. But Frederich Busch captured my feelings best when he wrote:"Good art is a form of prayer. It's a way to say what is not sayable". At the very least for me, it has been the great interpreter. |
