| Introduction | I was raised in suburban California by parents who sent me to public school despite having what I identify as a homeschooling mentality. My DP and I married in 2000. We have 2 kids: DSS, born 7/98 and DD, born 4/02. I have an undergrad degree in Women's Studies and a Master's degree in Counseling. I enjoy teaching adults and all kinds of public speaking, and hope to return to the workplace in that capacity one day. Meantime, I'm a SAHM, homeschooling DD and occasionally picking up some odd work. My approach to homeschooling is fairly relaxed (I'm influenced by John Holt's writing about unschooling), but I do provide DD some structure. This year, DD and I are enjoying Five in a Row (www.fiveinarow.com). We "Row" secular-style. We read a lot, take field trips, enjoy Music Together classes (www.musictogether.com), attend religious school playgroup, take gymnastics and swimming lessons at the Y, ride bikes, and play, play, play. I'm a feminist (I admire the writing of Barbara Deming), a believer in pacifism, and an unabashed tree-hugger. I also value the compassionate communication model of Marshall Rosenberg. I aspire to walk my talk. |
