Introduction Growing up as the "accident" and 3rd child, my parents were already tired and old. I missed out on family camping trips and Scouts as a youngster. My first official hike was in 8th grade with my BFF who took me to Wunderlich County Park. Sounds like a sad existence, right? Not really. Looking back, I see that I grew up hiking without even knowing it, as my backyard was Stulsaft Park where we'd scootch across the water pipe (the brave kids would balance and walk across it), hike to Bamboo Forest, look for Indian artifacts and scare each other with Indian burial ground stories (this was before Poltergeist!), wade across the dam to catch polliwogs, and watch water skeeters all summer long. When I wasn't at Stulsaft, my mom would take me to Santa Cruz and I'd wade in the water and stay there all day, legs numb. Body surfing (and eating sand) was my sport of choice. I didn't have to venture out to find nature. I was in it. I am a 40-something year old mom who loves to travel and find new places to explore with her son, husband, and dog. We are on the endless adventure to make the world a smaller place by experiencing and see all we can and living life to the fullest.
