Introduction	I was born and reared in Appalachia by Republican parents. I earned a Bachelors in Economics & ComSci followed by a Masters in CompSci from William & Mary where I was, for a while, a Young Republican. After a successful career in the telecom industry and the sale of a company I had helped start, I left technology to explore other places and ideas. In March of 2008, after 25 years as an independent voter, I became a newly-minted Democrat examining my political perspective. I have a deep concern for the principles that underpin our government and society and I believe that now, as much as ever, we need to encourage people to be "free thinkers".
