Introduction Liz Medoff’s scholarly-creative research practices focus on trauma and representations of it, specifically in instances of large-scale American monuments and memorials. Broadly, her current work focuses on commemoration, sound, and architecture. In her studio practice, Liz’s goal is to build structures that utilize the bodily experience of listening as a conduit for commemorative engagement. Liz specializes in the study of “emotional culture” – in other words, the intersections of culture and felt experience. Liz is an advisor to undergraduate artists as well as an educator at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and has presented work across the United States. Her writing appeared in Between the Sheets (2011) and Black Swan: New Work by Michelle Grabner (2012), and she currently writes for Dilettante Army. Liz received her Master of Arts in the department of Visual and Critical Studies at SAIC, where she currently pursues post-graduate work in Art and Technology Studies.
