| Introduction | in both my academic and personal life, i'm interested in cultural hybridity and cultural transition/shift/messiness. academically, this interest manifests itself in my passion for studying language mixing and language change (as well as, of course, anything else that demonstrates cultural melangé). personally, it means i like things that defy being easily categorized like italian-middle eastern restaurants, shops or flea markets that sell odd collections of things, and traveling to places with two or more distinct major populations. |

| Favorite books | hmm...my favorite reads are mostly classic social theory pieces that lend insight into the social structure/agency debate(Weber, Austin, Foucault, Bourdieu). I also love childrens' books--Le Petit Prince is my absolute favorite but lately I've been into Peter Sis because my niece loves him! |
When you open your eyes underwater, do you ever worry that you'll drown?
no, even though i wouldn't describe myself as a strong swimmer, i'm not afraid of drowning. i'm a little afraid of fish but i love to snorkel...perhaps i love it *because* i'm afraid of fish so it seems really daring then...who knows???
