| Introduction | “Each poem I write is very personal and relates to some part of my life in one way or another.” This is what inspires poet Darryl Phillip Behlin. The Bedford Stuyvesant native was born April 25, 1982. Like many others out there, he didn’t know he had the talent of forming words together to make meaningful phrases that could touch the soul. A graduate of The Medgar Evers College Middle College High School, Behlin stumbled upon his talent accidentally in his senior year, when he had to write a short story for English class. “Ironically I never had any aspirations or interest in writing or poetry. I wanted to be a basketball player or comedian.” Behlin stated. Though writing was in his veins like the ink in a pen, after high school he served in the United States Navy for six years as Information Systems Technician. His military career provided him with a lifetime of experiences that also influences his craft. After residing in the Hampton Roads area for a while, he returned to his hometown Brooklyn, and started focusing on his writing career. |
