Introduction | Welcome! Two years ago John came home from a lucrative career at sea, where he had spent the last 17 years. We sold our house in the Free State, spent at year at YWAM (Youth with a Mission) doing a discipleship course and then moved onto a piece of land we’d acquired in the Central Drakensberg. To be more precise, we moved into a caravan for eight months while building a shed we envisioned would house everything from rickety old Betsy, our 18th century Landcruiser to our furniture. The good news is we’re in - and not a moment too soon! It has been an agonising journey of self-discovery as John has learnt what it takes to be a husband, a father to four small children, and a humble leader in his home. Life ashore has been colourful, to say the least. Not knowing what he was supposed to do ashore, he opted to start a trekking business, combining his enthusiasm for the Drakensberg with a thorough knowledge of these mountains. Together, we have 60 years experience in the Berg and there is not a pass or valley John has not explored. He is presently qualifying as a high-altitude technical terrain climbing leader – we will keep you posted. |
