| Introduction | I come from a former pit village near Doncaster in South Yorkshire and after leaving school, went to Birmingham University to study for a degree in Drama and Theatre Arts. After a short time on a post graduate course at East 15 Acting School, I began my professional acting career. Subsequent Equity membership required me to use a name other than my own and so, for quite a number of years, I was known professionally as John Readman*. In 1994, Equity allowed me to use my real name, which I've done ever since; both names appear on the site, which I hope isn't too confusing. After more than 30 years in the business, I continue to feel deeply and passionately about acting and have had the great good fortune to work with some phenomenally talented, kind, generous and fabulous people for which and to whom, I am profoundly grateful.
