| Introduction | Bee Limerick is a group founded by an enthusiastic bunch with the goal of creating a resilient urban ecology by planting native,naturalised and productive plants and establishing new bee colonies in Limerick City. We believe city plants should have more than just aesthetic and maintenance values and should contribute significantly to maintaining a resilient urban ecology. Planting schemes should involve local community groups in the planting and care of plants.In this way people are given greater ownership and responsibility in the management of city flora. It is our aim to work with our partners and local governing bodies to develop a planting scheme that encompasses these added values. The group was established in August 2010 and came together specifically with the goal of achieving this project. Presently, the organisation is self-funded, however in the future we hope to gain funding for specific project segments and activities from a range of sources. |
