| Introduction | I was born in India and came to the U.S. when I was 16 for college. I still love India and my parents still live there. In 2000, my first book was published, called Pilgrimage to India: One Woman's Return to a Changing India. I've been working in social justice for the last 19 years, the first ten years internationally and for the last nine years domestically. Check out the organization I founded and direct, OneAmerica. Our mission is to advance democracy and justice through building power in immigrant communities, in collaboration with key allies. www.weareoneamerica.org. I am also a writer, though I don't have as much time to devote to that these days. My first book, "Pilgrimage to India: One Woman Revisits Her Homeland" was published in 2000 (Seal Press). I've also written for Orion Magazine, Yes! Magazine, Grays Sporting Journal, and the Seattle Times. I am married to CurioRando and have a son, age 12, and a stepson, age 31. We live in Seattle and are fortunate to have a wonderful, tiny cabin halfway up Mount Joseph in Oregon, where we get to spend time flyfishing, relaxing, and bicycling. |
