| Introduction | A native of both North Carolina and Minnesota, Faheem Majeed moved to Chicago in 2003. Faheem was introduced to the SSCAC that same year and began working on his collages within the Center's historic walls. Although he eventually moved on to his own studio space to create his signature steel sculptures, he remained connected to the Center by volunteering in various ways. Then in 2005, Faheem became the curatorial consultant for the Center, managing its Margaret Burroughs’ Gallery. Under his curatorial leadership, the Center's gallery has experienced a rejuvenation in its commitment to providing opportunities for emerging and established artists. Recently, Faheem's responsibilities have expanded to include facilitating community relationships/partnerships and fundraising efforts. In addition to his responsibilities at the SSCAC, Faheem continues to manage his own business of creating and selling original steel sculptures. Also, in August of 2007, Faheem will begin pursuing his MFA at the University of Illinois at Chicago as an Abraham Lincoln Fellowship recipient. Faheem currently resides in the South Shore area with his wife LaShana and 2 children Walter and Jackson. |
