About me

Location Hershey, Pennsylvania, United States
Introduction I've had one career and many jobs, but writing has always been an avocation. My first success in the field came as a high school senior, when a 25-word essay won me a fishing trip to Alaska. Upon returning, I entered the Marines and was chosen to serve in the President's Honor Guard (Eisenhower's and Kennedy's, and yes, I'm that old). After my discharge I returned to the Jersey Shore and worked as a lab technician and part-time bank teller, simultaneously pursuing an education degree and a pilot's license. I forged a career in education, serving 33 years in a middle school and four as a college writing instructor. My wife and I raised a son and daughter, now married with children of their own. I’ve written newsletters for various organizations; a coffee-table book, The Art of H. Hargrove; and articles and stories for American Heritage, AOPA Pilot Online, Living Aboard, and the children’s magazine Spider. These days, I'm concentrating on paranormal fiction: vampires, werewolves, things that go bump in the night. Shades of my favorite 1950s-era comic book, Tales From The Crypt: it must be second childhood, returning to haunt me. I couldn't be happier.
