IntroductionThe 9.19 acres that are Multnomah Park Cemetery was once part of the donation land claim of William Kern. Historical records suggest that after the land was logged it was turned to grazing pasture. On October 8, 1887 the cemetery land was deeded to the Multnomah Cemetery Association. The first recorded grave sale was on December 14, 1888 for Mrs. James (Anna) Willis, who is interred in Block A. There are several burials dated before the cemetery was platted but it is likely these graves were moved to the cemetery from family properties in the area. We know that in 1912, John Dorsey was the superintendent of the cemetery and after his death from a heart ailment in 1919, his widow, Emma, operated the cemetery until Multnomah County took over the cemetery in June of 1943. The county operated the cemetery until its operation was transferred to Metro Regional Government in 1996.
