IntroductionThe practice of using the moon as a timer was a survival skill, providing a way to track the term of a pregnancy and prepare the safest possible conditions for childbirth. From its beginnings over 25,000 years ago, we carried this system with us in our migrations; "moontime" is still a term in use, found worldwide. Even though the method has been corrupted by history, it is so deeply embedded as to seem more like a memory awakened, when the pattern is recognized. Lunar/menstrual locking is the scientific term for the phenomenon. When locked to our common clock, innumerable sisters throughout the world are also synchronized to each other. “The coincidence of the menstrual cycle with that of the moon is a physical actuality structuring human life and a curiosity that has been observed with wonder,” Joseph Campbell wrote. We need wonder less now, because the science that underpins the validity of the system for regulating the cycle, devised by our ancestral Grandmothers, is finally demonstrable.
