| Introduction | Once upon a time, way back in 2002 when I started to blog, I was an infertile graduate student living in Austin, Texas. In the ten years that have followed, I endured the pain of infertility and miscarriages, six IUIs, 1 IVF, a frozen embryo transfer, the joy of the birth of my first son in 2007, the wonderful shock of a surprise pregnancy and ensuing birth of my second son in 2009. Oh, and we also moved from Austin to rural New England where I am a tenure-track professor at a liberal arts college and, as a native southerner, a stranger in a strange (but much beloved) land. In July of 2011 our family's van was struck head on by another vehicle while on a summer road trip. My husband was killed instantly. One year later, I am still reeling from the shock, trying to navigate single parenthood, and preparing to go up for tenure. |
