Introduction | I am married to the Rev. Sally Welch, a UCC/Christian Church (DOC) minister and leader in ecumenical ministries. Our son James is an attorney at a local firm, specializing in civil law, real estate law, and wills and trusts. I was born in Manitowoc, Wisconsin and was baptized at First Lutheran Church. I graduated from St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota in 1973. I served in the United States Marine Corps from 1969-1971. I graduated from Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley, California with honors in 1977 and was ordained as a pastor of the American Lutheran Church on July 3rd of that year. I served at Christ Lutheran Church in Compton, California from 1977-1986. Sally and I were married there and James was born there. I served at Faith Lutheran Church from September of 1986 until my retirement on June 10, 2018. I hold a second-degree brown belt in Tae Kwon Do, played drums in jazz bands through college and seminary, and am a Masters Swimmer, competing from time to time in Southern California. I am engaged in leadership roles in our synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. I am working on four books about the Christian life. |
